On Saturday, September 2, Lakeland’s Freedom Temple A.M.E. Zion Church hosted the Day of Hope, a free, open-to-the-public celebration to support Baltimore City residents as they start a new school year. Over 150 volunteers, local businesses, and organizations gathered for the Day of Hope to support residents, who on that day were referred to as the Guests of Honor.
Despite the inclement weather, over 800 Baltimore City residents attended to participate in a range of activities including games, moon bounces, cotton candy and popcorn stands, free onsite haircuts, health services, and more. Under Armour gave 500 backpacks away to the children in attendance as a back-to-school gift!
Mercy Chefs were on site to serve delicious, hot food for the event, in addition to the bags of fresh produce that were provided for families.
The Port Covington Development team would like to extend a special thank you to the many partners that contributed to the event, including: the Baltimore City Police Department, Maryland Food Bank, Somebody Cares Baltimore, The Entertainment Playground, and The Serve City.
