Entrepreneurs and Professionals Celebrated at Black Wall Street Event in Port Covington

This February at Nick’s Fish House, the Port Covington Development team sponsored Black Wall Street; an event to “celebrate Black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them.”

Alicia Wilson, the Head of Impact Investments for Port Covington, said, “This event helps to put a spotlight on organizations that are doing amazing work in Baltimore. All the honorees are people that largely support businesses, and more importantly, minority businesses that are vital to the success of our city, our state, and our region. We are happy to have the opportunity to recognize them.”

Co-hosted by Doni Glover, owner of DMGlobal Marketing & Public Relations, the event included the presentation of the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Awards. All honorees were recognized for their ongoing support of minority business in Baltimore’s community. A few of the award recipients were:

  • Tony Hawkins, who played a role in the development of Harbor East and formerly served as Group VP Director of Mixed Use with the Rouse Company for 30 years.

  • Sloane Brown, author of Baltimore SNAP and freelance contributor to The Baltimore Sun.

  • CityWide Youth Development, a local non-profit focusing on economic empowerment, for providing entrepreneurship education, vocational skill training, and enterprise development through their two signature programs: Frozen Desert Sorbet and Apparel Workforce Development. The Apparel Workforce Development’s Made In B More Clothing initiative also won an award from Black Wall Street.
