The Port, the new entertainment portal for Port Covington, has launched “Deep Dive”; a new series of panel discussions and workshops to educate, challenge, and entertain the up-and-coming influencers of Baltimore City. On February 15, the first in this series, “Deep Dive: Baltimore Music Industry Pros Discuss What’s Next,” was held at City Garage. Co-hosted by Betamore, the event featured a panel of diverse music professionals from across the city who discussed potential avenues for supporting Baltimore artists, the state of the industry, and current growth opportunities.
A diverse crowd of industry professionals filled the room to capacity for an engaging conversation. Moderated by Sam Sessa, music coordinator for WTMD 89.7, the panelists included: Kayenecha Daugherty, Founder of Creative Nomads; Osei Moreland, former Def Jam executive and CEO of Bring the Noise; Chris Keating, Talent Buyer for Steez Promo; Mike Nyce Middleton, Operations Director for WEAA 88.9; Jimmy MacMillan, Owner of Friends Records; and Heidi Klotzman of HeidnSeek Entertainment. Complimentary beverages for a networking happy hour were provided by Dogfish Head Brewery and Stella Artois, Sagamore Spirit Rye Whiskey, Red Bull, and Tenth Harvest wines.
Chip Watkins, Director of the Port Covington Development team’s Entertainment Division, said, “It was fantastic to see Baltimore’s music industry out in force with the different genres and disciplines so well represented. I hope that the connections made will spur further collaboration and build a stronger music scene for our city.”
Panelist Heidi Klotzman, CEO of HeidnSeek Entertainment, said, “I was honored to have been chosen to speak on The Port’s ‘Deep Dive: Baltimore Music Industry Pros Discuss What’s Next’ panel alongside peers that I respect and admire. I was able to connect with old and new contacts, learned a lot from the community, and had a great time. I’m thankful to The Port for facilitating an endearing gathering space for our passionate community.”
