Weller Development Company Hires Marc Broady as Vice President of Community Affairs

Broady to lead ongoing community initiatives for developers of Port Covington 

Baltimore, Md. – Weller Development Company today announced it has hired Marc Broady, Esq. as Vice President of Community Affairs. Broady brings over a decade of experience in civic and community involvement in Baltimore to Weller Development Company. He will report directly to CEO and Founding Partner, Marc Weller. 

Previously, Broady worked as lead counsel and policy advisor to Rep. Elijah Cummings, where he drafted and drove legislation in areas such as education, criminal justice, housing, small business and tax, and led the creation of the Baltimore Chapter of President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. He has also worked in the Baltimore City Public School System and The Office for the Mayor of Baltimore City. He currently serves as a board member to My Brother’s Keeper of Baltimore, the Pimlico Community Development Authority, and the Holistic Life Foundation. He is also a Young Professionals Board Member to Center Stage and a mentor for the CollegeBound Foundation.

Broady will be responsible for leading the Port Covington Community Affairs Team, whose mission is to ensure that the transformational nature of Port Covington reaches beyond its physical boundaries. He will spearhead initiatives focused on workforce development programming, local hiring and apprenticeships, support for women- and minority-owned businesses, community partnerships, and more. Marc Broady will also be responsible for implementing community-related Developer commitments including compliance with the historic city-wide Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Baltimore and the SB6 Coalition Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) valued at over $135,000,000. This includes $39,000,000 in direct benefits to the six surrounding communities of Port Covington; $55,000,000 in other direct city-wide benefits including workforce development initiatives, education programs, college scholarships, recreation facilities, summer jobs for youth; and $6,500,000 in incremental costs for prevailing wages. Mr. Broady’s commitment to community development, combined with his legal background and experience, will be critical components to Weller Development Company’s ability to effectively collaborate with all stakeholders to positively impact the Port Covington project.

As Vice President of Community Affairs, Broady will maintain the crucial connection between Weller Development and communities throughout Baltimore City, including leading the partnership with the South Baltimore 7 (“SB7”) Coalition, an organization comprised of community leaders from Brooklyn, Cherry Hill, Curtis Bay, Lakeland, Mt. Winans, Westport and Port Covington.

A Baltimore native, Broady received his juris doctor (J.D.) from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2016 and is a member of the Maryland Bar. He holds a bachelor of science (B.S.) in justice studies from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md. and currently resides in Baltimore.
